Republicans Hating On Republicans and A Broader Point

It may be that stories of NCGOP infighting are all starting to run together for you. They're funny, but even Seinfeld got old after a while. Here's a chunk from a story over at the NCDP website, but below the fold I want to suggest that there is more than entertainment value to these stories.

A sworn affidavit forwarded to the state Board of Elections claims that state Republican Party chairman Ferrell Blount tried to pressure Rep. Stephen LaRoque, R-Lenoir, into donating $500 to the primary opponent of Rep. Richard Morgan, R-Moore. When LaRoque refused during a Feb. 17 meeting, Blount turned to the man who ultimately filed to run against him in the May primary, Willie Ray Starling, and stated, "Willie Ray, go file."

As They Used To Say On Dragnet, "Only the Facts Ma'am"!

Only The Facts! The Whole Truth about Chicken Halwks and nothing but the Truth.

1.You have the Right to remain Silent, You Did!

2.You have the Right to a Attorney during Questioning, You waved that Right, And shot off your mouth without counsel!

3.Anything you say can & WILL be used against you in a court of Law! And again, It will be!

Streak ends at two

I'm sad to report that the unprecedented but brief outbreak of journalistic integrity in Western North Carolina is over.

Today in the Asheville Citizen-Times, Julie Ball wrote extensively about budget woes locally for the National Park Service. Apparently, (among other things) the Blue Ridge Parkway can't afford the 700,000 maps it hands out annually. Staff at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been cut by 13.

There are so many things wrong with the presentation of material, I literally don't know where to begin. And since I just listened repeatedly to the two audio clips they posted, I'm deeply depressed.

Who is she talking to?

There are a couple of approaches a partisan political blogger can take to a post. There is "Inform and Advance" (as in "inform the reader; advance the discussion") and there's "Inflame and Annoy" (as in "inflame the choir; annoy the rest"). Most bloggers employ a bit of both—"inform and advance" alone doesn't make for very interesting reading, and "inflame and annoy" on its own tends to come off as psychotic ravings. I wanted to point out a post at one of the extremes. I'll leave it to you to figure out which extreme, but I'll give you a hint: I read it at NC Rumors.

Make Zeb's day

As ya'll know by now, the right wing Puppetshow (aka, the John Locke Foundation) doesn't allow commentary on their statewide blogs. They do, however, have some local blogs that I visit from time to time to see what the Puppet munchkins are up to. It's occasionally enlightening, sometimes amusing, and mostly scary. For example, take this missive (please) from one Zeb Wright in Wilmington.

Larry Kissell is Ready to Win in November

First, let me set you straight. I'm not some giddy little school girl - far from it. Meeting Larry Kissell made my day, yesterday. When I planned to go to the Mecklenburg County Democratic Convention I hadn't thought about the candidates who might be there. Once I saw a few shaking hands, I made a beeline for the Larry Kissell table.

He is tall. Not imposing tall, but Mr. Smith-goes-to-Washington tall. Oh...and humble...yes, the humility is palpable, as is the honesty. This isn't some slick talking, in-your-face, self-annointed savior of the 8th District. Nope, just the opposite. Larry is real.

More about the Kissell campaign below the fold.
